A former US Navy Seal who was hailed as the most lethal sniper in American history has been killed at a gun range.
The bodies of Chris Kyle and another man were found at the Rough Creek Lodge range in Texas on Saturday afternoon.
Sergeant Lonny Haschel says they were shot at close range.
Eddie Ray Routh, 25, was charged with double murder on Sunday.
Kyle, 38, was credited with killing more than 150 insurgents in Iraq, during four tours of duty, from 1999 - 2009.
He rose to fame last year with a bestselling book about the psychology of a sniper.
The accused is reported to be a former Marine who has post traumatic stress syndrome.
According to a website run by members of Special Operations Forces, Kyle had been volunteering his time to help Marine Corps veterans with PTSD and mentoring them.
