Quake in Colombia

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred in southwestern Colombia near the border with Ecuador on Saturday. There are no reports of deaths or major damage.

The quake, originally measured at magnitude 7.0 by the US Geological Survey, was 130km deep.

It was felt hundreds of miles south in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, where buildings shook for at least two minutes. Some residents in the Colombian capital, Bogota, were evacuated briefly.

No tsunami warning was issued.
