A third person has died from a listeria outbreak linked to the Jindi Cheese Company in Gippsland, Victoria.

A New South Wales man died from listeriosis late last month. The link to the cheese was confirmed by the Victoria health department on Sunday morning.

The ABC reports the outbreak has been linked also to the deaths of two other men in Victoria and Tasmania and a miscarriage.

A further 23 people have also been infected with listeriosis.

The ABC reports the bacteria outbreak was originally linked to 1kg rounds of brie and camembert produced by the company.

Jindi has since extended a nationwide recall to all batches of cheese it manufactured up to 6 January, including other brands such as Wattle Valley and Coles.
