Daily birdcall series to begin on BBC

11:40 am on 30 April 2013

The BBC is introducing a daily birdcall on its Today programme.

Beginning next week, the tweet of the day series will feature the songs of birds from around Britain, followed by a narration by natural history presenter.

It will be presented by Sir David Attenborough for the first month, starting with the cuckoo.

Natural History Unit presenter Brett Westwood said the series is not just about the birds' songs, but also giving listeners snippets of information.

He said the birds will range from well-known species like the cuckoo, to more unusual ones such as the black browed albatross.
