One of the men on trial for the gang rape and murder of a woman on a bus in Delhi last December has been badly beaten in prison.
Lawyer A P Singh said Vinay Sharma, 20, is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked by fellow prisoners in a maximum-security jail.
Mr Singh also said his client's food had been poisoned over several weeks.
Another accused, Ram Singh, was found hanged in his cell in the same prison in March.
