Six people were killed by tornadoes which hit in north-central Texas after dark on Thursday. Another seven are missing.
About 45 people were taken to hospital. Dozens of houses were destroyed or badly damaged in four counties.
The hardest hit town was Granbury, about 56km southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth.
The National Weather Service said there were reports of 10 tornadoes.
