Driver thrown 20m from truck after crash

11:40 am on 17 May 2013

A truck driver is in a critical condition in hospital in Melbourne after falling 20 metres when his vehicle rolled over on the approach to Bolte Bridge.

The man fell from his cab as it dangled over the side of the roadway following the accident, which happened about 6:30am.

The ABC reports he landed in Mark Street below and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

A female car driver whose vehicle hit the truck was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The accident disrupted rush hour traffic across the city and emergency crews are working to clear the bridge in time for the evening commute.

An eyewitness who called ABC Radio, said it was like something out of a Hollywood movie.
