A man with a pellet gun and a fake grenade sparked panic at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday.
Two blank shots were reported just before a live television show began on the main thoroughfare, causing many people to flee.
Festival jury members Christophe Waltz and Daniel Auteuil were being interviewed on Le Grand Journal, a French TV programme.
Police say a man is being held and nobody was hurt.
