Plans to break sectarian barriers in N. Ireland

12:47 pm on 24 May 2013

The First and Deputy First Ministers of Northern Ireland, Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness, have set out plans to break down the sectarian barriers in the province.

The proposals were issued on Thursday and the BBC reports they include tearing down 'peace walls' which separate Catholic and Protestant areas on a 10 year timetable.

Schoolchildren will also be taught about the dangers of sectarianism and there will be cross-community work placements and summer schools.

There are also plans for a "buddy scheme" to bring nursery and primary school children from different backgrounds together.
