2nd man formally charged with the murder of soldier

A second man has been charged with the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich, London, on 22 May.

Michael Adebolajo, 28, of Romford, Essex, was also charged with the attempted murder of two police officers and possession of a firearm.

He was charged after nine days in hospital and was remanded in custody to appear in Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday.

Michael Adebowale, 22, has already been charged with the murder of Drummer Rigby. He appeared in court on Thursday after six days in hospital.

Both men were filmed and photographed by witnesses following the killing, which took place on a busy street near Woolwich Barracks.

Both men were shot by police at the scene of the killing.

Drummer Rigby, 25, died at the scene. On Wednesday, a post-mortem examination found the cause of death was multiple cuts and stab wounds.

The BBC reports the total number of arrests made in connection with the killing stands at 12.
