Second shooting in Melbourne

9:58 pm on 13 August 2010

There has been a second fatal shooting in Melbourne on Friday, only hours after the head of a crime family was killed.

It is not known if the shootings are linked.

Police say Macchour Chaouk was gunned down in the backyard of his Melbourne home about 11am on Friday.

The ABC reports he was shot at his heavily-secured home by a gunman who got out of a car in a side street to shoot the 65-year-old in the chest.

The other two shootings occurred in Lygon Street, in the central city, on Friday afternoon.

Police have confirmed three people are dead.

One man, reported to be in his 50s, has been taken into custody but police say they are continuing to hunt for the gunman who shot Mr Chaouk.
