43 dead in Iraqi bombings

7:13 am on 3 July 2013

At least 43 people were killed in bomb attacks across Iraq on Tuesday, with nine explosions in markets and commercial areas of the capital Baghdad.

The deadliest attack was in a mainly Shi'ite Muslim district of northern Baghdad, where twin car bombs killed eight people.

A campaign of killings since the start of the year has increased fears of wider conflict.

Sectarian tensions have been inflamed by the civil war in neighbouring Syria.
