A suicide bomber killed at least 12 people and another five wounded at a police station in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan on Friday.

The BBC reports the station in Tirin Kot is used by police guarding the road to Kandahar.

Most of the casualties were police officers or visitors to the station who were having lunch at the time.

A senior intelligence official told the BBC said the bomber was wearing a police uniform.

Afghan police have consistently been targeted by the Taliban.

In a separate incident on Friday, another suicide bomber blew himself up at the Spin Boldak border crossing with Pakistan, killing at least two people and wounding several others.
