Seven clubs have been fined by the NRL for salary cap breaches.

The Sharks have been fined $A150,000, while the Raiders face a $A144,393 penalty following the final salary cap audit of the 2012 season.

Newcastle ($A88,749), Manly ($85,000), Gold Coast ($A16,217), Sydney Roosters ($A14,348) and Parramatta ($A4700) were also sanctioned.

The ABC reports the fines totalled $A503,407.

"The salary cap plays an incredibly important role in the competition and all clubs need to be accountable for staying within the limits of the cap," said NRL chief operating officer Jim Doyle in a statement on Friday.

The clubs will have five business days to appeal the amounts.
