10:43 am on 12 July 2013

More than 30 people have been killed across Iraq in the past day, many of them members of the security forces.

The BBC reports 11 people were killed as they were gathering for a funeral in Muqdadiyah, north-east of Baghdad.

Further west, 14 deaths were reported after an assault on members of the security forces in Anbar province.

Late the previous evening, an army checkpoint and a security guards compound were attacked by gunmen near Haditha.

Attacks were also reported in the towns of Ramadi, Khaldiya and Fallujah in Anbar province, as well as in Tikrit and Kirkuk.

According to UN figures released last week, more than 2,500 people have been killed since April in Iraq.
