More than 1000 prisoners have escaped from a jail in the city of Benghazi in eastern Libya.
A security official said most of the escapers were facing serious charges.
Benghazi is one of the most unstable parts of post-revolution Libya.
Last year the US ambassador and three other Americans were killed there.
