An online fund set up to help pay the funeral expenses for Australian Chris Lane who was shot and killed in Oklahoma, USA last Friday, has received almost $US100,000 in donations from people around the world.

It was set up by Marshall Veal, who played baseball with Mr Lane, 22, in Oklahoma.

The money was to be used to pay for the cost of Mr Lane's parents, Peter and Donna, to fly to Duncan, Oklahoma, and take his body back to Melbourne for the funeral.

However, the donations may make it possible to set up a Christopher Lane Foundation.

As of Thursday morning, the fund, which was launched two days before, had raised $US91,500. More than 2200 people have made donations.

Two teenagers appeared in court on Wednesday charged with first degree murder. Another is charged with being an accessory to murder.

Duncan Police Chief Danny Ford said on television on Monday that the three randomly targeted Mr Lane because they were bored and thought it would be fun to kill him.
