An environmental group in the United States is circulating a petition asking the World Meteorological Organisation to name hurricanes after politicians who are dismissive of climate change.
At present, the agency has a list of first names it attributes in alphabetical order as storms develop.
A BBC correspondent said it is highly unlikely any change to the existing practice will be agreed.
