Police in Russia have confiscated a painting of the president and prime minister wearing women's underwear, from an art gallery in St Petersburg.

Officers seized the painting, which depicts President Vladimir Putin combing the hair of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Also taken were two pictures that poke fun at MPs who led a campaign to introduce an anti-gay law that bans 'propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations'.

The gallery owner said he has not received an explanation for the removal of the paintings.
