A rebel group in Colombia has freed a Canadian man who was seized seven months ago.

Braeval Mining Corp vice president Gernot Wober was handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross on Tuesday at an undisclosed location in the state of Bolivar. He was taken hostage there on 19 January.

Braeval is based in Toronto. The kidnappers, the ELN, had demanded that the company drop plans to prospect for gold in northern Colombia.

The BBC reports Braeval announced in July that it was pulling out of the country.
