United honours $5 tickets after web glitch

7:23 pm on 14 September 2013

United Airlines in the United States says it will honour tickets worth up to $US1000 sold for almost free because of a computer glitch.

For a few hours earlier this week, AFP reports, customers found they could buy tickets online by paying just a $US5 or $US10 airport fee charge.

When the free-for-all was discovered, the airline temporarily closed its website to correct the error.

"We've reviewed the error that occurred yesterday and based on these specific circumstances, we will honour the tickets," the company posted on Twitter.

The company did not say how many tickets had been sold at the wrong prices.
