Deputy Australian Opposition Leader Julie Bishop expects Tony Abbott to stick with the same team he took to the federal election for his frontbench.

"Tony's indicated that he wants to maintain the stability of the team that he took to the election," she told Network Ten on Sunday.

AAP reports prime minister-elect Tony Abbott is expected to announce an unchanged senior team on Monday, with the new ministers to be sworn in at Government House in Canberra on Wednesday.

Ms Bishop has indicated she is likely to be the only woman in cabinet.

"In time I expect to see many more women promoted," she told Channel Ten.

Meanwhile, the ABC reports Mr Abbott has anointed Liberal party elder Bronwyn Bishop to become speaker of the new Parliament.

Mr Abbott said Ms Bishop has high public standing and he wants to return dignity to the parliament.

Ms Bishop has been in parliament since 1987. She says dignity has been lacking in Parliament, and she is delighted to put herself forward as a nominee.
