Australia postpones Gallipoli ballot

5:04 pm on 31 October 2013

The Australian Government is postponing its national ballot for Australians who want to attend the 2015 Centenary in Turkey of the Gallipoli landings, because of concerns that it is unfair.

The former Labor government set aside 8000 tickets for Australians and nominated Friday as the ballot's opening day.

But Veterans Affairs Minister Michael Ronaldson says he has decided to delay the ballot until mid-November because he is not satisfied Australians can easily access the system.

New Zealanders will get 2000 tickets and have been told they can register for the ballot on this side of the Tasman on 15 November.
