Hundreds arrested in huge porn ring

A Canadian investigation into a massive international child pornography ring has resulted in the arrest of more than 340 people and the rescue of nearly 400 children.

Police have described a multimillion dollar business that distributed videos of naked children to customers around the world.

The inquiry centred on a Toronto-based film company, Azov Films, which began operating in 2005.

Toronto police say Project Spade was one of the largest child pornography raids they have seen.

It's alleged the film company sold DVDs and uploaded videos of naked boys from Germany, Romania and Ukraine, the BBC reports.

Company owner Brian Way, 42, is accused of paying others to film the children, before distributing the footage in 94 countries.

The footage was marketed as being "naturist" and Azov Films claimed it was legal.

The police investigation was launched after Way was arrested in 2011 on suspicion of traficking in child pornography.

Others charged include doctors, members of law enforcement and teachers.

Police in Toronto say no arrests have been made in New Zealand as part of Project Spade. In Australia, 66 people have been arrested and face almost 400 charges.
