Coalition slips in polls

The latest Newspoll in Australia shows a drop in support for prime minister Tony Abbott and the new government.

Support for the coalition has fallen to 43%, nearly three points below the election result of 45.6%, according to the latest Newspoll, conducted over the weekend and reported in The Australian.

Labor lifted its election day result of 33.3% to 35%.

AAP reports personal support for Mr Abbott also slipped, from 46% to 44% , while ALP leader Bill Shorten rose from 30% to 33%.
