Australian jailed 30 years for trafficking son

An Australian man who trafficked his adopted son to an international paedophile network has been sentenced to 30 years in jail.

Peter Truong from Queensland and his partner Mark Newton bought the child for about $A8000 from Russia in 2005, the ABC reports.

Police say the men allowed at least eight men in several countries, including Australia, the United States, Germany and France to molest the boy when he was between two and six years old.

Australian police have said previously that the international paedophile network was cracked by a New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs investigator who questioned some apparently innocent online photos.

Truong's sentencing by a US court was for conspiracy to sexually exploit a child and conspiracy to possess child pornography.

The judge said she took note of Truong's willingness to work with authorities to lead them to other paedophiles and his own history as a childhood abuse victim.
