Dubai has shattered the world record for the biggest New Year's Eve fireworks display, Guinness World Records has confirmed.

The display spanned 94km of the Dubai coast which includes man-made islands and Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower.
Officials say with 10 months in the planning, over 500,000 fireworks were used during the display lasting about six minutes, the ABC reports.
Enough fireworks were launched in the first minute of the display to break the previous record set by Kuwait in 2011.
