Fears that island blaze could spread

Fire fighters fear a large bushfire on North Stradbroke Island, east of Brisbane, could jump containment lines at the weekend.

With hotter temperatures and stronger winds predicted for Saturday and Sunday, extra fire crews are arriving on the island.

AAP reports about 900 campers were forced to leave the island on Wednesday.

The blaze has burned 3500 hectares so far and reached campsites on Wednesday night.

The Department of Community Safety said the fire was mostly burning within containment lines on Friday.

Power has also been restored to the island after an outage about midday (AEST) on Thursday.
