The ABC reports Mary Poppins author Pamela Travers was born in Maryborough in 1899.

In the movie Saving Mr Banks, Emma Thompson portrays P.L. Travers as reluctant to let her nanny be reshaped by Hollywood and Walt Disney (played by Tom Hanks).

Mary Poppins ultimately made it to the screen in the 1960s.

As part of the screening at the Brolga Theatre, the ABC reports Mary Poppins characters and vintage cars will parade along the street and outside the building where Travers was born.

Tas Webber from Fraser Coast Opportunities said Maryborough is proud of its history and will celebrate the event.

"Walt Disney Studios ... have given us the right to release this film earlier," he said. "The Australian release is 9 January and they have given us the ability to show the film on 3 January and get ahead of the game."
