Three Secret Service agents responsible for protecting President Barack Obama in Amsterdam were sent home after going out for a night of drinking, according to reports.

One of the three was found drunk and passed out in a hotel hallway, reports in two major United States newspapers said.

The hotel staff alerted the American embassy in the Netherlands after finding the unconscious agent on Sunday morning, a day before Mr Obama arrived in the country.

The newspaper reports quote a Secret Service spokesperson, Ed Donovan, as saying the agency sent three employees home for disciplinary reasons.
