A prominent dissident Irish republican has been shot dead in Belfast.
Tommy Crossan was shot at a fuel depot in the west of the city.
It is understood he was shot several times just after 5pm on Friday.
The BBC reports a red BMW car was later found on fire close to the scene.
Mr Crossan, 43, was once a senior figure in the Continuity IRA, a breakaway group.
The BBC believes he was expelled from the group some time ago after falling out with other members. It is also understood that he had been informed that threats had been made against his life.
The shooting has been condemned by Northern Ireland Secretary of State Theresa Villiers.
