Police in Japan are investigating the case of a nurse whose corpse was sent by parcel post across country, in a box marked as containing a doll.

The body of Rika Okada, 29, was found in a storage facility in Tokyo, along with the two-metre box in which it was transported from the southern city of Osaka.

The delivery service that carried the package, marked with the Japanese word for "doll", was paid in Ms Okada's own name.

She had been missing since late March. The body reportedly had more than a dozen stab wounds.

Meanwhile, AFP reports a woman who was at primary school with Ms Okada, left Tokyo by plane earlier this month using the dead woman's passport, with a Chinese woman of about the same age.

Both women flew from Haneda airport on the same flight, bound for Shanghai.

Just before she went missing, Ms Okada wrote on her Facebook page that she was going to meet an old friend whom she had not seen for a decade.
