Officers raided the singer's home in August. The search was broadcast live on television after the BBC was given warning.

Sir Cliff, 74, has been interviewed by police over allegations dating back to the 1980s, but has not been charged. He was on holiday when the raid was carried out.

Reuters reports that a report by parliament's Home Affairs Committee said police handling of the situation was utterly inept and Sir Cliff is owed an apology.

South Yorkshire police accept their actions were flawed.
