Elephants kill elderly people, child

A herd of elephants has trampled eight elderly people and an eight-year-old girl to death in Malawi.

Rangers at the Liwonde National Park in the east of the country said two marauding elephants were thought to have crossed over from neighbouring Mozambique, the BBC reported.

Floods there several months ago sent herds of elephants fleeing across the border, dangerously swelling their populations in some game parks and adjoining crop lands.
