Warning for Australians going to Indonesia

7:17 pm on 6 January 2015

Australians travelling to Indonesia are being advised to exercise a high degree of caution following American government warnings about potential terrorist attacks.

Canberra diplomats said they were receiving information that indicated terrorists may be planning attacks in Indonesia, which could take place at any time.

AAP reports the American government warned on Sunday of a potential threat against US-associated hotels and banks in Surabaya.

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said officials are working closely with their Indonesian counterparts to prevent terrorism, and that personally, she would still be happy to visit the tourist island of Bali.
