A man accused of the strangling murder in England of the girlfriend of former All Black Bruce Reihana's son, Evaan, has been remanded in custody.

Edward Tenniswood, 51, is charged with murdering India Chipchase in Northampton over the weekend.

Local police discovered Ms Chipchase's body in Tenniswood's home on Sunday night.

A post-mortem confirmed she died from pressure to the neck.

In a post on Instagram, Evaan Reihana, who plays for the Bordeaux Begles in France, promised to dedicate his career to Ms Chipchase.

"I honestly can't believe to think even now that you have left us in that way miss India eve Chipchase," he said.

"I honestly hope that you rest in peace Hun and that I will be playing for you for as long as I know."

The 20-year-old was reported missing in the early hours of Saturday after a night out with friends in Northampton.

Mr Tenniswood appeared before Northampton Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody to appear in the town's crown court on Thursday.

Mr Tenniswood spoke only to confirm his name to the magistrates. His solicitor said he had no representations to make.
