A correspondent for Australia's ABC news has been arrested in Singapore and is likely to be charged with drug-related offences on Friday.

The police in Singapore say India-based Peter Lloyd was arrested during a follow-up search following the arrest of another man, a 31-year-old Singaporean.

He's been accused of possessing a small quantity of the drug 'ice', one improvised smoking pipe and six syringes.

The police say Mr Lloyd, who was on holiday in the island state, he has tested positive for amphetamines.

If convicted, Mr Lloyd faces imprisonment of between five and 20 years in jail and between five and 15 strokes of the cane.

ABC management say it is still waiting for more information but steps are being taken to ensure Mr Lloyd gets appropriate legal representation.
