NZer in Melbourne accused of hit-and-run

A New Zealand man has appeared in court accused of fatally striking a woman with a stolen car in Melbourne.

Nicholas Michael Davison, 22, appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court today charged with culpable driving causing death.

He also faces charges of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to render assistance, trespassing and theft.

Mr Davison was allegedly behind the wheel of a car that struck and killed the 22-year-old New South Wales woman in West Melbourne just after 2am on Saturday.

He was remanded into custody until his next appearance.
