The seven times Tour de France winner, American cyclist Lance Armstrong, has hit out at the event organisers who said his return to cycling was embarrassing.

Armstrong says he was never once found to be guilty of doping despite seven years of intense scrutiny.

Amaury Sport Organisation CEO Jean-Etienne Amaury told Saturday's French sports daily L'Equipe it can't be said Armstrong does not embarrass the Tour de France, with whom he has had a complicated history.

Armstrong says while he loves the event and France's people he cannot accept this sort of grandstanding.
