A Czech-trained obstetrician who performed botched procedures at Wanganui Hospital is at the centre of a malpractice investigation in Australia.
Roman Hasil's New South Wales medical registration was suspended in February this year after the New Zealand Health and Disability Commission found he botched a quarter of female sterilisations in Wanganui in 2005 and 2006.
Ten of Mr Hasil's former patients at NSW's Lismore Base Hospital, where he worked from June 2001 to March 2005, have also lodged complaints with Australia's Health Care Complaints Commission.
NSW Police Force confirmed it forwarded two allegations of assault against Mr Hasil from former patients to the NSW Medical Board.
Mr Hasil, who is now living in a homeless shelter in inner Sydney's Surry Hills, has denied any wrongdoing regarding his former patients at Lismore.
"Of course it is not (true). I became depressed. I can't work. I'm on medication and this must stop," he told Fairfax.
NSW Health Minister John Della Bosca said Mr Hasil was no longer licensed to practise medicine in the state.
