Eight soldiers have been killed in Pakistan when a suicide bomber drove his vehicle into a security check-point.

The attack happened near Wana, the main town in South Waziristan, a tribal area on the border with Afghanistan.

Pakistan troops have been deployed in the area to combat growing militancy, but attacks have continued.

Pakistan's chief army spokesman says the suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a group of paramilitary officers.

The attack came two days after suspected US missile strikes in the region killed around 20 people.
