Iran has criticised US President-elect Barack Obama for saying that it's unacceptable for Tehran to develop nuclear weapons.

In comments on state radio on Saturday, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Senator Obama's comment showed a pursuit of what he called the "same wrong American policies".

A few days ago, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad surprised observers by publicly congratulating Senator Obama on his victory.

On Friday, at his first news conference since Tuesday's election, Senator Obama said that an international effort must be made to keep Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, adding that Iran's development of a nuclear weapon was "unacceptable".
