Bodies stuffed in wells

5:59 am on 24 January 2010

Piles of bodies in wells and sewage pits have been found in a Muslim village in Nigeria, near the city of Jos.

Many had massive burns, others were hacked to death or shot.

Thousands of people fled fighting between Muslims and Christians, which broke out on 19 January. Security forces have restored order and imposed a curfew in Kuru Karama village.

The BBC reports several thousand people fled their homes and up to 300 are thought to have been killed. More bodies are believed to be in the bush.
