Police in Victoria have arrested eight people over an attack on two Indian students in Melbourne on Monday night.
The two were approached by a group of about 10 people just after 10pm (AEST).
The ABC reports some comments were made by the group and one man was pushed to the ground and kicked. The other was punched to the ground.
After the attack the offenders, described as of Asian appearance, fled the scene.
Victoria has recently been portrayed as racist and violent in the Indian media after the fatal stabbing of an Indian graduate student on his way to work on 2 January and a series of attacks on Indian students studying in Melbourne.
