Four members of an English family have been rescued after their yacht hit a low-lying iceberg in the south Atlantic.

Falmouth Coastguard picked up their emergency signal north-east of South Georgia and alerted Falkland Island authorities late on Friday.

The Coast Guard said all four were safe and well and on their way to the Falklands.

The BBC reports HMS Clyde was 200 miles south of the family and sailed to the scene to rescue them.

The couple and their two teenage daughters were on board. They are not believed to be injured.
