UK doctor struck off medical register

5:19 am on 25 May 2010

The doctor who first suggested a link between MMR vaccinations and autism is to be struck off the medical register in Britain.

The General Medical Council found Andrew Wakefield guilty of serious professional misconduct over the way he carried out his 1998 study into the vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella. The findings were later discredited.

Dr Wakefield says he will lodge an appeal.
