A plane crashed on Thursday in the Hudson River off Manhattan.
The FAA says it is an Airbus A320, which was en route to Charlotte, North Carolina from La Guardia airport in New York.
The aircraft is the same type as an Air NZ plane that crashed off the coast of France on 27 November.
The Federal Aviation Authority says 148 passengers and five or six crew aboard.
Fox News reports all have survived.
Preliminary reports say the plane may have hit a flock of birds before it went down.
Witnesses say survivors could be seen standing on the wings awaiting rescue from the frigid waters as ferries approached to rescue passengers.
