No request by Victoria yet for NZ help with bushfires

The New Zealand Fire Service says the Country Fire Authority in Victoria is yet to ask for help in fighting bushfires there.

More than 20 houses have been destroyed so far and about 6000 hectares of land burned amid a heat wave.

Most of the state has been recording temperatures above 40 degrees.

New Zealand rural fire chief Murray Dudfield says there's an agreement for lending assistance if it's required.

Up to 60 firefighters could be sent at short notice.
