Paper apologises to Hanson over photos

A Sydney newspaper has apologised to Australian politician Pauline Hanson, after admitting that revealing photographs it published, saying they were of her, are in fact of someone else.

The ABC reports that the Sunday Telegraph which published the photos last weekend now claims it was duped by the man who supplied them.

The paper's editor has publicly apologised to Ms Hanson, who had always denied that she was the person in the images.

Ms Hanson said the publication of the photographs was largely to blame for her failure to win the seat of Beaudesert in the Queensland election on Saturday.

"It's a conservative seat, and I think it had a big impact," she said.

She conceded defeat on Saturday night at a gathering of family and supporters at a small pub near Boonah, where she cast her vote.

Ms Hanson said the 20% of the vote confirmed for her so far was an indication people were not satisfied with the major parties.

She did not rule out continuing in politics.
