The Fiji soldier charged with the murder of Tailevu villager Nimilote Verebasaga has been found guilty of manslaughter, the Fijilive website reports.

Four of the five assessors in the trial of Private Maika Vuniwawa found him not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter, the website says.

The decisions were passed before judge, Justice Daniel Goundar, who released Vuniwawa on bail, to be sentenced on Tuesday.

Nimilote Verebasaga died in January 2007 after sustaining severe injuries to his internal organs on being taken into military custody.
